The first telecon of the CLIVAR/CliC/SCAR Southern Ocean Region Panel in 2021 took place on 22th March, soon after the 26^th session of the CLIVAR Scientific Steering Group.

The CLIVAR/CliC/SCAR Southern Ocean Region Panel (SORP) organized a two-session telecon on Dec. 8 and 10, 2020, discussing the task plan in 2021.  

The co-chairs emphasized the importance of maintaining the connection with other communities. In addition to its three co-sponsors, SORP has established close connection with SOOS, YOPP-SH, ASPeCt and OOPC. Besides, the co-chairs hoped to build cooperation with the UN Decade of Ocean Science in the future.

The CLIVAR/CliC/SCAR Southern Ocean Region Panel had its regular teleconference on 14^th October 2020. In this meeting, the panel mainly focused on the annual report and the WCRP Lighthouse Activities.

The CLIVAR/CliC/SCAR Southern Ocean Region Panel (SORP) held the teleconference on 14st July, 2020, chaired by Inga Smith, and with the participation of Matthew Mazloff, David Bromwich, Neil Swart, Sandra Barreira, Robin Robertson, and Liping Yin from the ICPO.

The CLIVAR Climate Dynamics Panel is now inviting abstracts on " Sources and consequences of Southern Ocean freshening: Toward synthesising observations and modelling " for its session at the 2020 AGU fall meeting.

The CLIVAR Southern Ocean Region Panel held an online meeting on 10^th June. 

François Massonnet, a member of CLIVAR/CliC/SCAR SORP panel was awarded for Outstanding Early Career Scientists for 2020 by EGU.
