Climate and Ocean -
Variability, Predictability, and Change

Coastal zones are especially in need of climate services for adaptation, as they are increasingly threatened by sea level rise and its impacts. An important component of these services will be sea level scenarios and projections aligned to the needs of users.

A recent study indicates a robust reduction of the Indian Winter Monsoon wind intensity over the Arabian Sea by the end of the 21st century in all the 27 analysed CMIP5 models (a reduction of 6.5% for Representative Concentration Pathways (RCP) 8.5 and 3.5% for RCP4.5, on an average), which is not yet detectable in observations. 

Jose Santos and Jing Li from ICPO, were invited to participate in the TPOS2020 Western Pacific Workshop, which took place from Sep 4 to 6, 2017 in Qingdao China. Jose Santos provided a brief presentation highlighting many links between the TPOS 2020 community and CLIVAR. 

After an extensive search, we would like to welcome the new Director of the International CLIVAR Monsoon Project Office (ICMPO), Dr. MM Ali. Dr. MM Ali has started his position since September 15, 2017, and can be reached at mm.ali@clivar.org.

The closing date for applications is 20 Dec, 2017. The length of the internship will be 6 months. It is expected that the successful candidate would take up his/her appointment, located in Qingdao from April, 2018.
