Climate Dynamics

Tropical Basin Interaction Working Group

Background

During 2020-2025, the CLIVAR Research Focus on Tropical Basin Interaction (TBI RF) has helped advance understanding of interactions among the tropical Pacific, Atlantic, and Indian Oceans. Through a series of coordinated activities, the RF brought together researchers working on observations, theory, and modeling, and facilitated progress on the mechanisms and pathways through which variability is communicated across basins.

The 2024 CFMIP Meeting and CLIVAR Climate Dynamics Panel 4th Annual Workshop

2024 CFMIP Meeting on Clouds, Precipitation, Circulation, and Climate Sensitivity June 3-6, 2024 at Boston College, Boston, MA USA. The meeting is being held with the 4th annual workshop of the CLIVAR Climate Dynamics Panel.

This 4-day conference will focus on the following topics, considering process and climate studies, and models and observations across a range of scales:

• Convective organization: What controls the organization of shallow and deep convection, and what role does it play in weather and climate?

Dr Ratna is a senior scientist in the Office of Climate Research and Services, India Meteorological Department (IMD), Pune. He has an M.Sc. in Oceanography, an M.Tech. in Atmospheric Sciences, and a Ph.D. in Meteorology. His research interest is in the role of the ocean on climate variability ranging from interannual to multidecadal time scales and diagnosing the physical mechanisms.
