Dr. Beatriz Balino joined CORA as the new science coordinator
Dr. Beatriz Balino is the new science coordinator of the WCRP Coordination Office of Regional Activities (CORA) hosted at the Bjerknes Centre for Climate Research (BCCR) in Bergen, Norway. Before joining WCRP Beatriz was the national coordinator of the Norwegian Marine University Consortium (NMU) an institutional cooperation agreement to foster cooperation in research, education and infrastructure among its members, and the official Norwegian academic representative at European Marine Board (EMB). Between 2016 and 2018 she was deputy director at the Division of Research Management at the University of Bergen (UiB), being in charge of the management of externally funded research at the institution. She also worked at the BCCR, both as science coordinator (2000-2005) and as director of administration (2011-2015). Her international research management experience includes the position of deputy director at the Secretariat of the International Geosphere-Biosphere Programme – IGBP (2006) and as Assistant Executive Officer at the International Project Office of the Joint Global Ocean Flux Study – JGOFS (1996-2000).
Beatriz Balino holds a Ph.D. in marine biology from UiB and has conducted fundamental and research in marine biology and fjord ecology, theoretical studies of phytoplankton dynamics and ecosystem modelling and sea ranching of cod. She also has experience in industrial research on the development of novel methodologies in aquaculture for larval rearing of halibut and turbot.
