Call for Experts: AI, Machine Learning, Data Assimilation and paleoclimate for the CLIVAR Scientific Steering Group (SSG)

CLIVAR is seeking qualified experts to join our SSG with appointments starting in January 2027 and 2028. New members for the CLIVAR SSG will be approved by the WCRP Joint Scientific Committee. Membership guideline can be checked here.

The SSG oversees the implementation of the CLIVAR activities and ensures that the overall project is responsive to advances in the field and the evolution of the current scientific understanding. The SSG ensures the interaction of CLIVAR with the other WCRP core projects and activities, the WCRP Grand Challenges and other relevant programs outside of WCRP. 

We are specifically targeting expertise in the following areas:

• Artificial Intelligence (AI) & Machine Learning (ML) - climate application
• Data Assimilation and reanalysis - climate and/or seasonal-decadal forecasting application
• Paleoclimate 

Candidates from the Global South are particularly encouraged to apply. Nominations can be submitted online via the nomination form, deadline for submissions: Apr 12, 2026.
