CLIVAR OMDP/RIfS CORDEX Task Team on Regional Ocean Climate Projections

Motivation:

  • Need to provide refined regional information relevant for ocean climate services and adaptation measures

  • Need for dynamical downscaling approaches as most coupled global climate models will not be able to run with high-resolution ocean models

  • Lack of international coordination of regional ocean modelling and climate projections

Mission:

Develop a strategic plan for a longer-term WCRP initiative which will aim to:

  • Develop coordinated simulation protocols and deliver standardised datasets on regional ocean climate projections

  • Advance the science of regional ocean climate modelling and projections, through multi-model assessments, identification of biases and underlying processes

  • Provide a forum for regional ocean climate modelers and users to share knowledge and experience

  • Serve climate impact and adaptation needs by engaging with users/stakeholders and by providing data and expertise to ocean climate services

  • Contribute to international and regional expert assessment reports

Surveying existing regional ocean climate projections

Are you a regional ocean climate modeler ?

If so, your inputs would be greatly appreciated !

As part of the joint CLIVAR-OMDP and RIfS-CORDEX task force on regional ocean climate modelling, we are assembling a record inventory of regional ocean model projection simulations as both a resource for the regional ocean modeling community, to inform recommendations regarding community needs and priorities

We are assembling a record inventory of existing regional ocean model projection simulations performed using CMIP5 or CMIP6 models as both a resource for the regional ocean modeling community and to inform Task Force recommendations regarding community needs and priorities. This inventory will potentially feed international assessment exercices, support multi-model assessment on ocean changes, and a synthesis (results will be anonymized) will be provided in a position paper to be published by the task force. We are collecting information for this inventory by way of voluntary survey.  Please feel free to forward this survey to potentially interested colleagues and modeling programs.

You’re invited to take the survey using the QR code below or using directly this link https://forms.office.com/e/18yxHGqWPZ :

Please submit your response by 8 September 2025.

The survey only takes less than 10 minutes to complete.

Please fill free to forward this survey to potentially interested colleagues and modeling programs.
