The December CLIVAR/CliC/SCAR SORP telecon was organized
The December telecon of the CLIVAR/CliC/SCAR Southern Ocean Region Panel was organized on December 2nd, focusing on the review of the progress in task teams and next steps, the membership discussion and the annual report.
Torge reported the progress of the Southern Ocean heat and freshwater task team, which is designing a protocol for the freshwater-release experiments with numerical models of the Southern and global.
The member proposal was reviewed during the telecon. Some members suggested recruiting some Russian and Chinese scientists to increase the geographic balance.
From the discussion of previous telecons, SORP concluded that it’s necessary to let the broad community be aware of the projects and scientific activities conducted in the Antarctic. They planned to organize a special issue of CLIVAR Exchange to promote the visibility of these projections. As a start, SORP has drafted the abstract and a questionnaire to see if people are interested in participating in the CLIVAR Exchange publication. This questionnaire will be reviewed among the panel and will be released to the community in next month’s bulletin.
The future activates were also discussed. As one of SORP’s sponsors, the SCAR assembly will be online next year, the co-chair encouraged SORP members to attend this online assembly.
Finally, all the participants expressed their thanks to Robin Robertson for her contribution to SORP.
