The "WCRP-CLIVAR Workshop on Climate Interactions among the Tropical Basins" was held successfully on 24-26 February, 2021.  Under the special circumstance of the COVID-19 pandemic, the workshop was held virtually, with over 200 participants from 31 countries.

The interactions among the tropical Pacific, Atlantic, and Indian Ocean basins are increasingly recognized as a key factor in understanding climate variability on interannual to decadal timescales. While recent years have seen progress toward understanding tropical basin interactions, much remains to be learned. In order to make progress in those areas, the CLIVAR Research Focus on Tropical Basin Interaction (TBI) proposed this workshop to bring together scientists with a broad range of expertise.

The workshop lasted for three days. The first two days consist of four plenary talks, two poster sessions and a 90-minute discussion each day. Recordings of the plenary talks are now available online, and the poster gallery will be accessible for 1 year. Day 3 was by invitation only, where participants were divided into 4 working groups according to the topics for discussion (GCM experiments, theoretical approaches and intermediate complexity models, observations, paleo data). Two time slots were provided to accommodate different time zones.

Despite the challenges presented by the online format, this workshop was very fruitful. The Scientific Organizing Committee is preparing a report for the workshop now and it will be online soon.
