The CLIVAR/CliC/SCAR Southern Ocean Region Panel (SORP) held the teleconference on 14st July, 2020, chaired by Inga Smith, and with the participation of Matthew Mazloff, David Bromwich, Neil Swart, Sandra Barreira, Robin Robertson, and Liping Yin from the ICPO.

SORP serves as a forum for the discussion and communication of scientific advances in the understanding of climate variability and change in the Southern Ocean. To advise CLIVAR, CliC, and SCAR on progress, achievements, new opportunities and impediments in internationally-coordinated Southern Ocean research. During this telecon, panel business is continuously discussed to keep the connection of the panel with other communities.

Main points discussed during the teleconference are:

• The panel discussed the current traveling policy of each of the countries, and the Covid-19 impacts on the Southern Ocean programs was continually discussed since last telecon.
• Inga introduced the SORP session in the AGU fall meeting, and encouraged the scientists to join in it.
• Inga and the members continually discussed the update on the planned replacement for the half-day WAMC/YOPP-SH/SOOS/ASPeCt workshop alongside SCAR OSC.
• David Bromwich introduced the progress of the next Workshop on Antarctic Meteorology and Climate (WAMC).
• The panel will submit SORP poster at big conferences for exposure.
• Neil introduced the update on NORP&SORP workshop after the GOOS/GCOS/WCRP freshwater transport workshop in Exeter, which has been postponed to 2021.
• Looked through the SCAR 2020 Online meeting,
• David introduced the YOPP-SH update since the last telecon.
