Scientific Motivation
The overarching objective of the Climate Dynamics Panel is to advance fundamental understanding of the coupled dynamical processes shaping climate on sub-seasonal to centennial time scales. To meet this objective, the Panel promotes the use of a hierarchy of tools including theory, idealized models, fully-coupled models, AI, and observational data. Current activities are organized around three areas:
- Weather-climate interactions across spatio-temporal scales;
- Coupled Earth-system interactions across the atmosphere, oceans, land, and cryosphere;
- Development of predictive theories of climate dynamics.
