WCRP Open Science Conference (OSC) 2023: Abstract submission deadline fast approaching!
The deadline for abstract submissions for the WCRP Open Science Conference (https://wcrp-osc2023.org) is fast approaching: 14th March! The same deadline also applies to financial support requests and expressions of interest to attend the Early and Mid-Career Researchers Symposium (EMCR).
The World Climate Research Programme (WCRP) Open Science Conference will be held from 23 to 27 October 2023 at the new Kigali Convention Centre, with options for in-person and state-of-the-art remote participation to ensure inclusion and engagement from communities around the world. Scientists, practitioners, politicians, policy makers, intergovernmental agencies and NGOs are invited to showcase their work, learn from each other, and explore new ways to work together.
This conference is a once-in-a-decade opportunity for the communities to come together and jointly explore the transformative actions urgently needed to ensure a sustainable future. It will showcase advances in climate science, identify gaps and opportunities, and provide a forum for communities to jointly develop future activities. We are building an exciting program, with many topical sessions (https://wcrp-osc2023.org/program/program-sessions) that will bring together the work of the WCRP Core Projects and Lighthouse Activities, while reaching out to different communities in transdisciplinary event. It also features many contributions from our partners, in terms of scientific research and organizational co-design.
There are 40 science sessions and over 40 poster clusters that will bring together a broad range of topics under three conference themes:
- Theme 1: Advances in Climate Research
- Theme 2: Human Interactions with Climate
- Theme 3: Co-produced Climate Services and Solutions
A limited amount of financial support will be available to support attendees who are early to mid-career researchers or who are from low to lower-middle-income countries and can be applied for as part of the abstract submission process.
In conjunction with the OSC, WCRP is also conducting a dedicated two-day Symposium for Early and Mid-Career Researchers (EMCR) on 22 October 2023 - one day before the main OSC start date (pre-OSC EMCR day) and on 28 October 2023, the day after the OSC ends (post-OSC EMCR day). In addition to these two dedicated sessions, a strong EMCR presence and involvement are expected during the main conference. Participants must submit an abstract to the Open Science Conference, and express their interest in attending the EMCR Symposium through the abstract submission portal.
