ICPO Staff Scientist attended the 2019 China SCOR annual meeting

Liping Yin, Staff Scientist of the ICPO, attended the 2019 China Scientific Committee on Oceanic Research (SCOR) annual meeting on 19-20 December 2019 at SanYa, China. The annual meeting was organized by the secretariat of China SCOR and co-organized by Hainan Tropical Ocean University.

Topics on marine environment and resources, biodiversity protection and ecological security, global climate change were discussed in the meeting, aiming to exert the role of China SCOR in international cooperation. Representatives from other international projects, such as SOLAS, PICES and IMBeR were also invited to attend the meeting, reporting their progress and future plan. This meeting will certainly enhance the cooperation between CLIVAR and SCOR, and also with other partners.

Dr. Fangli Qiao, member of CLIVAR Ocean Model Development Panel, was appointed the new Chair of China SCOR during the meeting.

The international SCOR was founded in 1957 by the International Council for Science (ICSU) to help address interdisciplinary science questions related to the ocean. SCOR activities focus on promoting international cooperation in planning and conducting oceanographic research, and solving methodological and conceptual problems that hinder research. China SCOR, which is the national representative for participating in the international SCOR, was established in 1984. Its aim is to promote mutual communication and cooperation between international SCOR and the marine scientific community of China.
