CLIVAR/CliC NORP telecon held in February
The first telecon in 2022 of CLIVAR/CliC Northern Oceans Region Panel was organized on 3rd February, when the rotating of membership, NORP-SORP joint freshwater workshop and the NORP summer school were discussed.
Since most of the members will have to rotate off by the end of 2022, NORP decided to invite three outstanding scientists as ex-officio members to be involved in the panel activities this year. The co-chairs will send them the invitation letter after some approval from CLIVAR and CliC.
The organizing of NORP-SORP freshwater workshop on Sources, Pathways and Impacts of fresh water in Northern and southErn polar seas (SPINE) proceeded in an orderly manner. It will most likely be in an online format and last for 3 half days during late spring, with different timeslot each day to accommodate different time zones. Learning lessons from the former online meetings, the organizer decided to make full use of the online tools to make the communication among participants more efficient. The workshop will be announced publicly by early March.
Two years after proposing and planning the idea of the NORP summer school, NORP finally decided to make it happen this October in Helgoland, German, even though the risk of cancelation because of the pandemic. The facility, specific date, setting of the course, and logistics were fully discussed during this telecon. Announcement and registration of this summer school will be online early next month.
