[Call for Application] ICTP-CLIVAR Summer School on Marine Heatwaves: Global Phenomena with Regional Impacts
The ICTP-CLIVAR Summer School on Marine Heatwaves: Global Phenomena with Regional Impacts, will be organized at the Abdus Salam International Center for Theoretical Physics (ICTP), Trieste, Italy from 24- 29 July 2023 in a hybrid format. Members from various CLIVAR panels (IORP, PRP and ARP) are involved in the Organizing Committee. Lecturers of the School are mainly from the newly developed CLIVAR Research Foci on Marine Heatwaves in the Global Ocean. The summer school is co-sponsored by ICTP and WCRP.
The school will include lectures on the current state of knowledge on the topic of MHWs and practical sessions with the development of student projects. Analysis tools for the detection and diagnosis of extreme events in observations and climate model output will be made available to the students prior to the school, so that they can be readily applied to small research projects during their time in Trieste.
Application to this Summer School is now open (https://e-applications.ictp.it/applicant/login/3857). The deadline is 1 April 2023. Applicants should submit a 'Research Abstract' (<1 page) highlighting their recent relevant research. A number of abstracts will be selected for a contributed talk or for a poster session. During the application, please make sure to use the template to format your abstract. There is no registration fee. A limited number of grants are available to support the attendance of selected participants, with priority given to participants from developing countries.
