2018 Modelling and Data Prizes awarded
WCRP announced the recipients of the 2018 Modelling and Data Prizes recently, which are awarded annually in collaboration with the Global Climate Observing System (GCOS, for the Data Prize) and the World Weather Research Programme (WWRP, for the Modelling Prize).
The 2018 WCRP/WWRP International Prize for Model Development has been awarded to Dr Thomas Melvin from the UK Met Office; and the 2018 WCRP/GCOS International Data Prize has been awarded to Dr Paul Durack (Program for Climate Model Diagnosis and Intercomparison, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, USA). The WCRP/WWRP International Prize for Model Development was established in 2014. Since 2016, it is awarded in conjunction with the “WCRP/GCOS International Data Prize”. Together, these two prizes for notable achievements in model and data development aim to honor, recognize, and foster research activities in their respective fields, as well as stress their mutual interdependence.
WCRP and its partners congratulate both prize winners and wish them all their best for their future work.
