CLIVAR/CliC/SCAR Southern Ocean Region Panel (SORP) organized its regular telecon on 6 June 2023, mainly discussing the agenda for SORP-15 and the CLIVAR Exchanges special issue on Physical and biogeochemical studies in the Southern Ocean by emerging Antarctic programs.

SORP-15 will be organized on 11-12 July 2023 in Potsdam and Berlin, Germany, alongside the IUGG 2023 General Assembly. Joint discussions with NORP and OMDP will be arranged during the meeting. During the meeting, the ongoing SORP activities (SOFIA, CLIVAR Exchanges, Antarctic InSync, UN South Ocean Decade actions, etc.) will be overviewed; the joint SORP-NORP activities including the past and future (e.g., upcoming Summer School in 2024), and collaboration with SCAR (AntCLimNow & INSTANT), and potential cooperation with OMDP will be addressed.  

Specifically, for the CLIVAR Exchanges special issue, a task team within SORP was established, and a few interests were sought through an open call in 2022. However, more efforts are needed in approaching to the potential authors and promoting the papers. A list of new national or emerging programmes in the Southern Ocean will be collected by the task team and further discussion will be made during SORP-15.
